The Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi) has tested jewellery and toys from the markets and found excessive levels of lead, cadmium and nickel.
Of the 29 pieces of jewellery purchased, 7 contained levels of cadmium and nickel that exceeded legal limits, 3 released too much nickel and 4 contained too much cadmium. While 12 pieces also contained lead above the threshold which will be effective from October 9, 2013.
4 electric toys of 11 toys analyzed contained RoHS prohibited levels of lead. While 2 plastic toys contained banned phthalates.
Companies have been advised of the analysis result and those who sales jewellery with prohibited substances have removed from sale. In some cases, prosecution submitted to the environmental prosecutor.
